Bayerische Motoren Werke AG (BMW) is a German automobile maker founded in 1917. The company was a merger of two companies producing aircraft engines, Rapp Motoren Werke and Gustav Flugmaschinefabrik. They formed Bayersiche Flugzeungwerke that changed its name a year later to Bayerische Motoren Werke AG. In 1923 BMW introduced its first motorcycle, the R 32. In 1928 BMW acquired Eisenbach automobile plant. Eisenbach was producing the British Austin Seven under license and were selling the vehicle under the name "Dixi 3/15 PS", BMW changed the name to "BMW Dixi 3/15 DA-1".

Land Rover is a British automobile brand with its roots dating back to the original Land Rover, later named Series I, launched in 1948. Land Rover was originally a product line with a single four-wheel-drive all-terrain vehicle in the Rover Company line of vehicles. The first Land Rover had an aluminum body due to shortage of steel after World War II in Europe. The body was mounted to a very rigid, fully boxed steel frame with an 80" wheelbase, a 1.6 liter petrol engine and a two-speed transfer case. A larger 2.0 liter engine on an 86" wheelbase together with a secondary and larger 107" wheelbase car came in the mid-1950s.
Rover came under British Leyland Corporation (BL) in 1967 and Land Rover became a separate company from the Rover brand in 1978, both still under BL. British Aerospace took ownership of the Rover Group including Land Rover in 1988, German BMW in 1994. US Ford aquired Jaguar and Land Rover in 2000 and Indian Tata Motors took ownership of the two brands in in 2008, merging the two brands into one; Jaguar Land Rover, in 2013.
